As the 2023 – 2024 President of the Crestwood Elementary School PTA, I would like to extend a warm welcome to the entire Crestwood Community! Our PTA’s mission is to create a safe community where every child feels included and can nurture their talents. As such, we work hand-in-glove with the incredible teachers, staff, and administration at Crestwood to complement the school’s learning agenda with engaging activities and programs and to support them as best we’re able otherwise.

First off: please JOIN THE PTA if you have not yet done so for this year. You must re-join every year and so make it an annual habit while you’re at Crestwood!

Next, you can view the PTA’s elected officers and serving committee chairs for this upcoming school year on our website here. If you are interested in any of these committee areas, or in volunteering more actively with the PTA, please complete our volunteer interest form here.

The PTA is responsible for more than people usually realize and so here’s a quick rundown of all our programs and activities (only possible w/ volunteer support!):

  • Events & programs: Popsicles-on-the-Playground, Movie Nights, Heritage Night, Winterfest, Dances, Nature Fair, Reflections Art Contest, Yearbook & Spirit Wear
  • Supplemental support for: Care Closet, Battle of the Books, Dancing Classrooms, SOL Celebrations, VA Rep Theatre performances, Original Art Program
  • Kindness fund (ad hoc requests from the school) allocations: library & series reading books, raised planter beds, outdoor classroom (coming soon!), various music & art supplies, field day refreshments, hallway murals (coming soon!) and much more!
  • Teacher Appreciation Activities & Teacher Support (Allowance for Out-Of-Pocket Expense Reimbursements)

Of course, we need a source of funds for this incredible list above and that comes in the form of our annual fundraiser – the APEX Fun Run. The APEX Fun Run is a 10-day leadership program and fundraiser (Sept. 18 – 28) that culminates in the Fun Run. More details on this year’s theme, the classroom leadership sessions, how you can donate, and the run itself will be released soon. Please keep in mind that we endeavor for this activity to be the only time we explicitly fundraise for the entire school year and thank you in advance for your generous support.

Finally, a quick personal note that all our elected officer roles are term-limited to 3 consecutive years. As such, this will be my last year as President – although not just because of the bylaw requirement but because it’s also good to make space for fresh ideas and perspectives. Our VP, Programs is also in her third year in her role. I don’t think it’s too early to start socializing these upcoming vacancies so folks can ruminate on if they may want to step into either of those roles for the following year.

Here's to an incredible school year at Crestwood!

Warmly,

Daisy Spiridopoulos

PTA President, 2023-2024
